WGTF? / Energy Rush

A 3 track tech-house ep (12m 50s) — released October 13th 2023 on Tessellate

Founders of London party series and burgeoning label Tessellate, Max van Dijk and Oli Hiam have been fixtures within the UK capital and its world-renowned nightlife scene since their first event back in 2013, with the past decade seeing them build a leading event within the capital while evolving as residents to form their own duo, The Trip. Formed around a shared passion for quality records across the electronic spectrum, both new and old, the pair's last two releases have welcomed a wide range of support from artists such as Avalon Emerson, Paramida, Young Marco, Enzo Siragusa, Peach, Liquid Earth, Hamish & Toby and Conducta, to name a few. Returning following their excellent array of tunnelling and cosmic cuts across their 'Pacific Vision' EP towards the end of last year, the duo draw for their collections once more with niche samples and heavy inspiration coming from the UKG and Speed Garage worlds as they switch things up with five impactful cuts shaped for the floor.

Opening with authority, 'Big Buzz' is a groove-led terrace anthem as rich rolling drums and resonant piano chords meet hooky vocals and heavyweight low-ends for a skippy anthem, while 'Who Got The Funk?' is a rowdy, boisterous and bubbling cut loaded with attitude. Heading up the B-side, 'Check One (Pavilion Mix) veers towards slightly darker realms as the track's snaking bassline meets punchy breaks, wiggling subs and resonant dub sirens, before 'Energy Rush' draws for those golden 90s tech house touches while upping the tempo and loading things with an abundance of speed garage elements for an impactful crowd mover. Digital purchasers also land a hot-to-handle exclusive as the pair revisit the A2 and drop their 'Reese Mix', paying additional attention to those no-nonsense sonics to really lay down a marker.
